The idea of this book is to provide a concept for a plagiarism detection system to detect plagiarized parts in documents written in Afghanistan’s national languages Pashto and Dari. Besides plagiarism detection, the book provides enough concepts for the establishment of research exchange platform for Academy of Science Afghanistan. In this book different types of plagiarism are discussed but the focus is mainly on two types of plagiarism, copy and paraphrased plagiarism in documents of Afghanistan’s national languages.
Turnitin plagiarism-detection software was operating as a pilot program conducted by the Center for Teaching and Learning in Winter 2007 on the Brigham Young University (BYU) campus. A sample of 6 instructors and 79 student users participated in this evaluation. The evaluation findings show that Turnitin is compatible with the academic honesty environment created by BYU‘s Honor Code. Turnitin has been effective at detecting intentional and inadvertent plagiarism at BYU. It has also addressed the problem of multiple submissions of the same material. Recommendations are made for promoting Turnitin at the campus and department level. Training tools are proposed for instructors: a FAQ page, an online tutorial, and a set of guidelines for introducing Turnitin to a class.

Since the events of 9/11 incident and initiation of War on Terror, the political landscapes of the Asian region has transformed radically. Pakistan made a strategic U-Turn in foreign policy over the Taliban, when her decade old forward policy in Afghanistan became counterproductive to her own national security. Both Afghanistan and Pakistan have since returned to the mainstream of the international system. However, skepticism and fear of renewed tension between them remains and both countries revitalize bilateral relations with cautious optimism. There is a need for greater focus on Afghanistan by the international community and an increased coordination between the external actors involved in Afghanistan as well as between the neighboring countries is the requisite for peace in the region.
We give a broad excursus into the national and language policies of Russia, highlight their major stages and reveal cause-effect connections. We conclude that the national and language policies of Russia follow the pattern of dynamic fluctuations, dependent, in the first place, on the domestic political conditions and international situation – calm and prosperous times or the times of external / internal threats. These policies fluctuate from liberal, providing for democratic self-governance of national territorial units, use of national (ethnic) languages in education and administration, institutionalization of and financing structures for the development of national media, cultures, literatures and languages, to conservative, involving strengthening of the major national language and titular languages of autonomous republics, return to unifying patriotic ideology and education, civic consolidation, “convergence in a single nation” and etatism.
We have developed a statistical analysis model for a gas detection system using a pulsed laser source and photo-detector, and then simplified the statistical analysis model to obtain the results efficiently. In this book our statistical analysis model is used for a generic mid-IR pulsed-laser gas detection system to predict trace gas detection and concentration estimation. The overall system statistical analysis model allows us to comprehensively evaluate and analyze a gas detection system as a whole, instead of merely looking at the system components individually. The generic analysis model can be specified with other system component (laser source, optical cavity, and photo-detector) parameter values, representing systems for different applications; thus, this generic analysis model can be used to evaluate the performance of a variety of gas detection systems represented by this model.
Plagiarism and academic dishonesty systematically destroy the fabrics of University Education like cancer. Universities and academia have a mandate of eliminating plagiarism and academic dishonesty. Elimination of plagiarism automatically promotes originality, creativity and innovation, which is the real motive of University education creation of new knowledge. This study explored the Media Focus in Afghanistan News Coverage to examine what categories of Afghanistan-related news received the largest amount of coverage during periods from 2010 to 2012. This study covered reports in The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, and The Daily Outlook Afghanistan, a national Afghan news outlet, as a sample within a period of three months over three years (June 2010, July 2011, and August 2012). The 147 news stories’ headlines of the four news organizations were studied to find what categories (process: peace talks, negotiation, and economic development; conflict: violence and military action; and politics and policy: USA, Afghanistan, and NATO) received the most coverage on Afghanistan. The purpose of this study was to examine focal points in media coverage on Afghanistan.
